Choose the Essex Record Holder
For a county-jail release, start with Essex County rather than the Sheriff’s identification bureau. ECCF operates at 354 Doremus Avenue, Newark, NJ 07105; its main line is 973-274-7500 and its release-verification line is 973-274-7826. Focused OPRA requests go to the Essex OPRA Custodian, Hall of Records, 465 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Room 535, Newark, NJ 07102; phone 973-621-5241, fax 973-621-2599, or the electronic request portal. These channels serve different needs:
- For a named released person or an ECCF release record, follow the full search and request path on the home page.
- For community supervision, use Essex Probation at 60 Evergreen Place in East Orange or the NJSPB contacts described under Parole / Probation.
- For a same-day check, use Released Last 24 Hours; Essex has no verified public rolling release feed, so the page gives official fallbacks.
- For a calculated state date or alert, use Inmate Release Date and VINELink Release Check.
- For a particular custody site, choose its facility page from the footer and contact the correct operator.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, contact NJDOC Central Office, Whittlesey Road, P.O. Box 863, Trenton, NJ 08625, at 609-292-4036 and use the official NJDOC offender search.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP locator or ICE ODLS; ICE’s information line is 1-888-351-4024 during its published weekday hours.
The Essex Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification is at 50 West Market Street, Newark, NJ 07102, and can be reached at 973-621-4111. BCI maintains arrest fingerprints and photographs, including archived identification records. It does not operate ECCF and should not be asked to confirm an adult county-jail release.
For the court basis of a release, contact Essex Criminal Case Management at the Veterans Courthouse, 50 West Market Street, Room 912, Newark, NJ 07102, by calling 973-776-9300, extension 57113 or 69029. Public hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; verify before visiting. Pretrial Services uses extension 56400. Essex Probation uses extension 53201 at its East Orange office.

The research did not identify public walk-in hours for ECCF, the Essex OPRA Custodian, NJDOC Central Office, or NJSPB, so confirm availability by phone before traveling.
