Information You Submit
Entries in Search Tools
When you type a name, location, or other term into a search box, that entry is sent to the third-party provider that operates the tool. Essex County Released Inmates does not store or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider’s privacy terms govern what happens after the query reaches its service.
Messages Sent to Us
If you send an email or use a contact form, we retain the message and the contact details you provide long enough to review and answer it. We do not share a message outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law. Do not send sensitive custody, identity, or payment information that is unnecessary for the question.
Technical Visit Data
Standard server, analytics, or advertising systems may collect basic technical information each time a page loads. That information can include:
- Your Internet Protocol address.
- The browser name and version used for the visit.
- Your device class and operating system.
- Pages viewed and the approximate time spent on them.
- The referring page or site, when one is available.
- The date and time associated with a request.
Cookies and Similar Storage
Cookies help measure how visitors move through the site and may support advertising functions. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Some features may load or behave differently when cookies are disabled.
How Information Is Used
Collected information is used for ordinary site operations and service improvement. We may use it to:
- Keep pages available, responsive, and secure.
- Send a search request to the selected partner service.
- Understand which Essex County record pages visitors use.
- Diagnose errors, broken links, and performance problems.
- Display advertising that may reflect general interests.
Government and Outside Links
Pages link to Essex County release-record resources, the county corrections department, NJDOC, NJSPB, New Jersey courts, VINE, federal locators, immigration resources, and outside search tools. Once you follow a link, the destination’s privacy notice and data practices apply. Official records obtained from a New Jersey public custodian may also be subject to the Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., and other confidentiality rules. This notice does not change public-record access law.
Advertising partners may use their own technology to understand activity across different sites and select targeted advertisements. That activity occurs on the partner’s systems, not as a record maintained directly by Essex County Released Inmates.
Parties Receiving Data
We do not sell personal information. Information may, however, be handled by limited categories of recipients when needed for site functions or legal compliance:
- Search partners that process the query you submit.
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and use.
- Advertising networks that deliver or measure ads.
- Law enforcement or another government body acting under a valid legal order.
Data Security Limits
We use reasonable, commonly accepted safeguards suited to a public website. No Internet transmission, connected service, or storage method can be promised as fully secure. We therefore cannot guarantee that an unauthorized access attempt, loss, or breach will never occur.
Visitors Under Eighteen
This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under eighteen. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted information may use the Contact Us page to request review and deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law and our ability to verify a request, you may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete information that may lawfully be erased.
- Stop certain processing where an opt-out right applies.
These requests cover information controlled by this site. Essex County, NJDOC, a court, or another linked agency controls its own official records and request process.
Changes to This Notice
We may revise this Privacy Notice as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version takes effect when it is posted here with a new effective date.
